can we prolong this eve

I hate writing papers. I would have have ten tests than one paper. This is me procrastinating.

But now for something better, I will tell you the best drink to get when you go to a coffee shop and hate coffee: Chai latte with vanilla soy milk and white mocha flavor with no foam, extra hot.  Try this and I promise you will fall in love with a drink if that is possible.

We get out of school in less than two weeks. Technically I could be done by Monday night. Although I am ready for a short break, I am not ready for the extended break that is about to occur. I feel like I have just started this semester, not that it is coming to a conclusion. This school year was so great. I was stretched emotionally, intellectually, socially, and physically. I made new friends and grew in old friendships. I feel like although I learned a lot from my professors, I might have learned even more from my peers. This summer I know I will continue to grow, but I am going to have a hard time letting go of this school year. If you are reading this, and you have been with me throughout the year, I want to say thank you. Whether your role in my life has been big or small, I really appreciate you and the impact you have had on me. I have quite a few friends leaving at the end of next week and not coming back to school, and it's really sad, but I'm trying to get over. Things will not be the same next year. I just need to remember this: that change happens and you cannot stop it, but it is up to you to decide whether that change will be positive or negative.

Anyway, now that I've got my ramblings out I should get back to this paper...

Northern Wind

You're the Northern Wind
Sending shivers down my spine
You're like falling leaves
In an autumn night

You're the lullaby
That's singing me to sleep
You are the other half
You're like a missing piece

Oh my love
You don't know
What you do to me

You are all four seasons
Rolled into one
Like the cold December snow
In the warm July sun
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/c/city_and_colour/northern_wind.html ]
I'm the jet black sky
That's just before the rain
Like the mighty current
Pulling you under the waves

Oh my love
You don't know what you do to me

I'm the darkest hour
Just before the dawn
And I'm slowly sinking
Into the slough of despond

Like an old guitar
Worn out and left behind
I have stories still to tell
They're of the healing kind

Oh my love
If I could just
Find you tonight

-Dallas Green
This is so beautiful, I wish I would have written it.

For my 16th birthday my grandma got me a pink sweatshirt. The sweatshirt has denim elbow pads and a cat on the front. The cat has a removable crochet nose for easy washing. The edges have ruffles.

learning

I am continually surprised by everyday things that I feel like most people wouldn't be surprised by. I really think that the little surprises in life make up a vast majority of the great memories I have stored in my mind. Spending time with my friends teaches me so much. I have been contemplating whether or not I actually learn more from my peers than my professors.

I feel like all of the people I am around at this school are all super blessed with something special, some great ability, or characteristic that makes them stand out. There are so many talents here, and I'm not even talking about just the physical. I am always caught of guard by the things people say, or do, or create.

Because of these things I am slightly fearful of the future. I will have to leave this place, and these people in two years. That seems so close. I'm not the type of person to tell myself that I'll stay connected with them all either, I know that the reality is that I will be lucky if I seem a few of them once a year. I am sure that it will be fine, but there's still that small fear.

One of my favorite things that I have started with a few friends this semester is our Thursday night Denny's trips. There are four of us that regularly go and then every other week invite different groups of people. We have have groups as big as fifteen plus, and as small at seven. I love bringing different people. It helps me get to know a bunch of different people that I know but not very much. It also opens doors for all of the people that come to meet others. Besides getting to know the people it is fun. Beyond fun some nights, as I'm sure most of you know laughter grows the later into the night it gets, and it is great. When we have people come up to our table you learn a lot about the people actually sitting at the table with how they react to the situation. Anyway, it teaches me a lot and that was the point.

I love being a college student and have definitely grown a ton this year, I'm kind of sad it's almost over.

Holy Crispy young adults

it is very hot here.

it is March and it feels like July.

it is strange.

i have a sunburn from being outside so much.

everyone is more tan.

no one wants to do their school work.

the end.

the meaning behind the name.

This is it. Hallelujah this is life, this is the day that the Lord has made! Today, and everyday I will be joyful because I am blessed with the air that God gave me. There is sunshine in the sky today, and it is beautiful; yesterday there were thunderstorms and lightening and it was beautiful; some days there are just cloudy skies and they are beautiful. Whatever I do I have to remember to be joyful through it because I am alive, breathing, and free.

This is it, this is life. This is the only one you have. There are no do-overs just like it should be. Don't regret the past. Love the present. Don't waste today saying tomorrow. Today may not be ideal for you, but it doesn't matter, get past it and make it great. You are so blessed, embrace it!

College

My college life goes like this...

I drink water, milk, tea, juice, pretty much everything besides coffee out of coffee mugs I get for free. Ten O'clock at night is when everyone gets together to hang out. Dinner gets skipped because I'm busy doing homework for my night class. Going to bed at eleven is early, and so is getting up at eight. When I walk to class at least two people I know pass me on the way and we greet each other. It seems to me that everyone is a musical genius, except for me of course. I get homesick, but the second I get "home" I want to be back at school, where my home truly is. Sleepovers on the floor, in the hall, three to a bed, in a chair, are normal. On Saturdays no one is in the bathroom until at least noon. If you text me at two in the morning I will probably answer. Breakfast usually isn't an option. My bed has a permanent fort built on top of it. Bed is the place I would be all the time if I could. If I have a class where I don't have any work to do, and I don't learn anything, I'm upset. There is no place in my life that I would rather be than college. It is marvelous and freeing. I love the adventure, and I wouldn't change it.

Euchre

So.

My entire high school career and college career until now, I have been resisting the pull of all my fellow Michiganders telling me to learn how to play euchre. Every time I said no to someone trying to teach me, because I knew how addicted to it people can become. So Sunday night when I said yes to learning, I don't know what I was thinking. I learned and I love it. LOVE it. Oh no.

It doesn't help that I've won three out of the four games I've ever played. Usually I never win games. I had the same partner every time, Alex. Our strategy was to come up with a sneaky team name. The team name is "the nothing winners". How is it sneaky you ask? Because when we're losing we use our full team name; when we are winning we use our nickname "the winners". Sneaky sneaky isn't it?

Well that is all for now.

Bandsick

Sometimes my heart yearns for the good old days of band. I miss the music. How beautiful it could be when we all jointly focused on trying. The new songs we would get and sight read and either immediately fall in love with it and be super excited, or hate it and dread playing it. I miss the people. The great times we had together at all the required stuff we had to do, and then because we were so close hanging out after we were done. The stupid drama that happened, because we were together so much. We were a family. I miss the giddy feeling I would get playing a pep tune at the basketball games. The hyperness that came from the joy of playing a song. Pounding the cow bell as loud as possible, banging the cymbals with might, playing cadences, marching to the beat, being terrified of H and also trying not to laugh when H was screaming at someone who wasn't you.

Ahhh band, I'm homesick for it.
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.

snowsnoesnowsnoesnowoh ohoh ohoh

Andi: (about the snow) These are the biggest flakes of the year!
Me: You're the biggest flake of the year...
Andi: that was so funny, you have to quote is somewhere.

and so there it is.

Denny's trips

Whether you believe it or not, our Denny's trips continue to teach me something every time we have one. Last night there was a woman who came up to us and sat down and started talking to us. The first thing she asked us was if we went to church, eventually in the conversation she brought up the fact that her friends that she was with are lesbians. This didn't faze me at all. Apparently it bothered some other people who were with us, which in turn bothered me. Sometimes it is hard for me to understand the ignorance of people and that they were raised differently than I was.

Also, the time before last night that we went we found out that the "all you can eat" pancakes are not actually all you can eat, you can only get eight, therefore, last night Alyssa dubbed them the all you can eight pancakes. Bahahahaha! I have fantastic friends.

the end.

life is funny

It's so interesting to me, looking back, and seeing how everything in made life that has happened made me who I am. All the things that I might have thought were terrible then, now have had a positive impact on who I am now. I have a super blessed life, so it is hard for me to really know if it is like this for other people who may have had it tougher, but for all the hard things I have made it through I am better for it.
